The Power of a Praying Wife and The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian

The Power of a Praying Wife and the Power of a Praying Woman

by Stormie Omartian

I have decided to review both of these books together as I found them very similar in style.  I personally preferred the second book The Power of a Praying Woman but it is in fact the first book The Power of a Praying Wife for which Stormie Omartian is better known!  Both books cover 30 subjects and they could easily be read as a chapter a day and in this way you are given a thought for the day which would leave you meditating and journalling most of the day I think!  Both books follow th same style in that Stormie gives the subject material followed by a prayer and promises from the bible to back up the subject material.

In the Power of a Praying Wife the subjects are:

His life

His work

His finances

His sexuality

His affection

His temptations

His mind

His fears

His purpose

His choices

His health

His protection

His trials

His integrity

His reputation

His priorities

His relationships

His fatherhood

His past

His attitude

His marriage

His emotions

His walk

His talk

His repentance

His deliverance

His obedience

His self-image

His faith

His future

Throughout the book I was challenged by one thing - prayer.  How much time do I spend praying for my husband in these specific areas?  Stormie includes real life stories of people who have experienced 'The Power" of prayer in their own lives.  At first glance it seems over simplified but there are challenging ideas which really make you think.  I found this an easy and fast read but then I have read it twice before!  I think it is a book that I probably will read some more in the future particularly for the prayers alone as they are so in depth and could be simply used when my mind goes blank as to what and how to pray!

In The Power of a Praying Woman I found there was a lot more depth to the subject materials, maybe because I related more to it!  The chapter titles were:-

Lord, Draw Me into a Closer walk with You

Lord, Cleanse Me and Make My heart Right Before You

Lord, Help Me to Be a Forgiving Person

Lord, Teach Me to Walk in Obedience To Your ways

Lord, Strengthen Me to Stand Against the Enemy

Lord, Show Me How to take Control of My Mind

Lord, Rule Me in Every Area of My Life

Lord, Take Me Deeper in Your Word

Lord, Instruct Me as I Put My Life in Right Order

Lord, Prepare Me to Be a True Worshipper

Lord, Bless Me in the work I Do

Lord, Plant Me so I Will Bear the Fruit of Your Spirit

Lord, Preserve Me in Purity and Holiness

Lord, Move Me into the Purpose for Which I was Created

Lord, Guide Me in All My Relationships

Lord, Keep Me in the Centre of Your Will

Lord, Protect Me and All I Care About

Lord, Give Me Wisdom to Make Right Decisions

Lord, deliver Me from Every Evil Work

Lord, Set Me Free from Negative Emotions

Lord, Comfort Me in Time of Trouble

Lord, Enable Me to Resist the Temptation to Sin

Lord, Heal Me and Help Me Care for My Body

Lord, Free Me from Ungodly Fear

Lord, Use me to Touch the Lives of Others

Lord, train Me to Speak Only Words That Bring Life

Lord, Transform Me into a Woman of Mountain-Moving Faith

Lord, Change Me into the Likeness of Christ

Lord, Lift Me out of My Past

Lord, Lead Me into the Future You Have for Me

I really wish I had taken more time with this book and read it a chapter a day at a time because there was so much in it to challenge me.  Having said that I possibly will take this method in the future and journal what I learn each day as this book lends itself so well to doing that.  I was challenged, rebuked and encouraged in reading this book and would highly recommend every woman take time to read it.  Your faith will be refreshed and renewed.  I found that I had to face up to issues from my past and present when reading this book which made me uncomfortable and to me that is a sign of a good book!
