The Tommy Sharkey Story


This is an autobiography of Tommy Sharkey, a man totally devoted to the witness and work of God.  He was born in Aghadowey but his travels in conducting various missions took him across Northern Ireland and in Southern Ireland.  He helped with the Faith Mission Pilgrims work in Open Airs and Missions.  This book was an amazing story of how God used one man to impact the lives of so many.  The stories of people he met, their backgrounds and how they came to faith are amazing - I kept thinking of how this is not happening today.  Individuals who came to faith in Jesus Christ and kept going on in their walk with God years later.  This book is written as Tommy talked - there are no airs or graces, no acknowledgement on his part that he was any great speaker or evangelist.  He tells it as it is.  He lived very much by faith and God rewarded his efforts time and again.  He had such a passion for souls and never turned down an opportunity to proclaim the gospel of saving grace.

Notes on Matthew's Gospel by J C Ryle

  This is one of those books that you can refer to for a "quick" idea of what a particular passage in Matthew means.  It is "a shortened version of Expository Thoughts on Matthew by J C Ryle, first published in 1856."  I would like to share with you some of what I have learned from this little book. Matthew 1 verses 1 to 17 J C Ryle reminds us that Matthew tells us the story of the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. To know Christ is life eternal To believe in Christ is to have peace with God To follow Christ is to be a true Christian To be with Christ will be heaven itself. We can never know too much about the Lord Jesus Christ! This is one of those books - It's OK to be not OK by Federico G Villanueva.  Here is a quote I love and find so applicable right now ... "Going to worship can become an exercise in pretence and concealment - neither of which can possibly be conducive for a real encounter with God."
