Notes on Matthew's Gospel by J C Ryle

  This is one of those books that you can refer to for a "quick" idea of what a particular passage in Matthew means.  It is "a shortened version of Expository Thoughts on Matthew by J C Ryle, first published in 1856."  I would like to share with you some of what I have learned from this little book. Matthew 1 verses 1 to 17 J C Ryle reminds us that Matthew tells us the story of the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. To know Christ is life eternal To believe in Christ is to have peace with God To follow Christ is to be a true Christian To be with Christ will be heaven itself. We can never know too much about the Lord Jesus Christ! You probably know how Matthew starts his book - with a family tree.  16 verses dating from Abraham to David and then from David to Jesus' own family.  I know when I was young I would have skipped over these verses and at Christmas time everyone always starts reading from verse 17 but J C Ryle points out 3 things from...
